Question: I heard human growth hormone can help people after surgery. Is that true?
Answer: The human growth hormone (HGH) that athletes take because they
believe it helps them recover from injuries has been used successfully
in burn patients for a number of years.
The healing process from a severe burn can sometimes put the body into
a hypermetabolic state that ends up tearing down muscle and other
tissue. In those circumstances, injections of HGH can reverse the
destructive (catabolic) processes and promote constructive (anabolic)
ones.
*Stimulants - Substances which act on the brain stimulating the body
both mentally and physically. They increase alertness, competitiveness
and aggression and help to combat fatigue, making athletes feel
stronger, more energetic and decisive. Misuse of stimulants can
increase blood pressure and body temperature and create an irregular
heart beat. Consequences include cardiac arrest and strokes. Stimulants
can be contained in prescription and over-the-counter medications as
well as in herbal and nutritional supplements. Examples of prohibited
stimulants: amineptine, amiphenazole, amphetamines, bromantan,
carphedon, cocaine, ephedrines, fencamfamine, mesocarb,
pentylentetrazol, pipradol, phenylpropanolamine, phentermine,
salbutamol, salmenterol, strychnine, terbutaline. Read More...
HGH & Honesty a hallmark of Indians Pitcher Byrd's first book
Indians pitcher Paul Byrd didn't sit down to write his first book, "Free Byrd: The Power of a Liberated Life," as a response to the human-growth hormone controversy that surrounded him last fall.
Byrd had actually begun working on the book two years ago. Initially, his manuscript was merely a series of journal entries he intended to someday pass down to his two sons, Grayson and Colby. At the insistence of a friend, he turned those journals into the book, which will be released Tuesday by Howard Books.
America will not win the crusade against performance-enhancing drugs in athletics.
So let's stop dragging this out and call this what it is: a loss.
Dry your eyes and prepare your mind for high-definition athletes -- did you really think only televisions got upgraded?
It pains me even to write this, but my editor shared with me a simple solution: legalize performance-enhancing drugs in the areas of its highest concentration, that being track and field. There is no need to be indignant about the matter. It is just reality.
We will not catch all cheaters. They are shrewd and always one step ahead.
And it has not and will not stop because the government busted Victor Conte, Marion Jones or because Trevor Graham was finally found a liar and drug dealer in court two weeks ago.
There are 20 more Contes in Europe, the mecca for track athletes seeking their next fix.
And each fix is always more sophisticated and transparent than the last.
So you have heard something about how exercise is for anti-aging. Perhaps now you’re wandering if all those rumors are true. The good news is that yes they are! Let’s have a look at just five of the ways that exercise can help with your anti-aging efforts:
HGH Production
This is an abbreviation for the human growth hormone which is inside all of our bodies. HGH not only helps to keep you looking younger but it also helps to keep you healthy and so feeling younger. If you don’t have enough HGH in your body, your skin is likely to sag, you will develop wrinkles, your energy levels will be low and you will be more prone to gaining excess weight,

Out-of-competition testing a must: WADA chief
Special Correspondent
Out-of-competition testing at an accredited lab is rare in India
IOA or NADA may have to take over testing and use accredited labs
New Delhi: Indian authorities will have to conduct out-of-competition testing to be compliant with the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) Code.
The assertion came from the WADA President, John Fahey, during a teleconference from Montreal on Monday night in answer to a question from The Hindu.
Asked whether WADA would advise Indian authorities to do even a minimum number of out-of-competition testing at an accredited laboratory, Mr. Fahey replied: “Yes, for Code compliance they must. If they haven’t at this point of time, ultimately to be Code compliant they will have to do out-of-competition testing.”
At Olympics, HGH drug testers and athletes will square off over doping
By TIM JOHNSON/MCT
Two-thirds of China's production of human growth hormone, a common doping substance for athletes, comes from the GeneScience Pharmaceuticals Co., headquartered in Changchun, China, seen in this April 30 photo. U.S. prosecutors last September accused the company of smuggling banned human growth hormone into the United States. (Tim Johnson/MCT) BEIJING
When some 11,000 athletes arrive in Beijing for the Summer Olympic Games in August, a few will be playing cat-and-mouse games to avoid random anti-drug tests.
The organizers of the Beijing Games say they'll test a record 4,500 athletes and operate 41 anti-doping stations at the Olympic Village and competition sites. Chaperones will ensure that athletes submit genuine blood and urine samples.
But drug testing is far from foolproof, and some athletes will get off the hook.
"You can still dope like mad, get the benefits, and go to the games and test clean," said Peter H. Sonksen, a British endocrinologist and developer of a test to detect usage of human growth hormone.
Braves' Schafer talks about his suspension over HGH
Lake Buena Vista, Fla. — Braves top prospect Jordan Schafer spoke for the first time Tuesday about his 50-game suspension for the use of human growth hormone (HGH).
There's a lot the center fielder has been advised not to say.
"It's not what it seems," Schafer told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an exclusive interview at the team's spring training complex. "It's different, but I really can't comment. I have to just let people think (what they will) and move on, and people will see by the way I play when I come back it was nothing like that. I'm the same player I've always been. It has nothing to do with any of that."
